Ryan Cannon from LOG WRAPS

Describe in one sentence where Log Rap came from? Where did the inspiration for combining surf culture with hip hop come from?

Log Rap came from the idea that not all surfers are the same. There is definitely a heavy skate influence in the content and how we run the brand.

We did some investigative research and saw that you're originally from New York, now living in California we have to ask: Biggie or Tupac?

For me it’s Biggie but obviously both are equally important to the history of hip hop.

New York cold or Cali crowds?

California, crowds aren’t always a bad thing. One of the reasons there’s so many good longboarders from California is so many people do it that there’s plenty of different places to draw inspiration from. In New York, only a couple people really longboard so you don’t really see much variety in the approach people take.

We’ve been smoking Log Wrap king papers for the past few months, and coming from a background of Zig-Zag white’s, why unbleached over bleached?

I’ve always felt the taste of whatever you’re smoking is more enjoyable when using unbleached papers. Plus if you roll a fat joint with an unbleached paper it kinda looks like log haha.

On that subject, Dr Dre’s ‘The Chronic’ came out in 92’. Where were you for this monumental drop in Hip Hop history?

Haha three years from even being born.

Walkman, vinyl or Iphone?

I’m gonna have to say iphone just for the sheer volume of music you have access too with that device. I really love cassettes because it forces you to listen to albums front to back, but the iphone is just too versatile.

Joel Tudor is a big advocate for cannabis culture, can you share some insight on weed smoking with the goat?

He’s taught me a lot about the different things hemp can be used for and how legalizing cannabis makes more sense for environmental purposes than most people realize. I’ll let him explain more in a future log wraps youtube vid.

You see Jonah Hill suiting up at Malibu, do you drop in on him?

No unless he wasn’t waiting his turn or burned one of my friends. He seems like he would be respectful in the water though.

With GX1000 in SF and Atlantic Drift crew in the UK, skateboarding is familiar with the concept of ‘crew edits’. Surfing seems to lack the diversity of content coming out and Log Rap is one of the pioneers creating fresh content. Can you describe some of the ups and downs to producing a steady flow of surf content?

One of the most difficult things about surf content is just picking the right spot to film that day. Because these swells come and go it feels great when you pick the right spot to shoot that day, but if you don’t you definitely get some serious fomo seeing the waves you missed out on. It’s all part of the game though and that’s why we love it.

Log Rap The Movie came out two years ago.. When can we expect another full length? 4/20/22?

We got Log Rap 2 dropping this summer. One of my favorite things about log rap is doing the movie premieres and we didn’t want to just release the next movie online without doing a live premiere. Maybe we could try to set something up with you guys to do one up there this summer?

Add a pack of Log Wraps next time you re-up your stash
